New Church Room

The Right Reverend Tim Dakin, Bishop of Winchester officially opened the new Church Rooms on Sunday 11 September 2016

CHURCHROOM UPDATE 2 JULY 2016

We have new Church rooms! There are still some minor snagging works to do, a safety rail for the entrance steps and the grass to grow but we are basically there.

Above: There is now step free access to All Hallows Church Rooms along a gentle slope. We still have fix the safety rail for the steps. The inset picture is the artists impression before the build started.

Above: This picture looks towards the kitchen and shows how well the glazed link separates All Hallows Church Rooms from the Church while giving direct access. The inset picture is the artists impression before the build started.

Above: This shows how much space we now have. The rooms can be divided by folding doors to the central pillar.

Above: The kitchen has been totally renewed. We have a new 2 minute dishwasher waiting to be installed, a plumbed in boiling water dispenser, a new cooker and fridge freezer.

Above: This looks towards the Hirst Room from the Vestry. Both these rooms have flexible uses as office, meeting room, dressing room, store, cloaks etc.

This shows how well All Hallows Church Rooms complement All Hallows.

During the project we incurred some unexpected maintenance costs. If you can help financially, please talk through the best way of doing this with our fundraiser, Philip Geddes. e-mail pg3565@gmail.com

If you have any questions about the build, want to use the rooms or would just like a tour, please ask Geoff Knappett by e-mailing Geoff@knappett.co.uk.

CHURCHROOM UPDATE 2 JUNE 2016

As we near completion, the additional unexpected maintenance works needed for the existing Churchroom means that funds are very tight. If you can help financially, please talk through the best way of doing this with our fundraiser, Philip Geddes. e-mail pg3565@gmail.com

Another excellent month's work from the builders.

As expected, the kitchen has now been fitted - but don't panic when you see the photo, there is a bright blue protective film on the white cupboards and the cooker is still to be moved into position.

The entrance hall now has doors and has been rendered. Work has started on building the pathways.

Internally, the flooring has been laid.

We now need to do the final fixes for the electrics and plumbing, hang the doors and create the steps from the Church through the glazed link to the new reception hall.

Then the landscaping can be done.

We are still on track for completion on 23 June 2016.

CHURCHROOM UPDATE 6 MAY 2016

The new Church Rooms are taking shape and should be ready by the end of June.

Most of the walls have been rendered with an attractive York stone through colour render. Internally the rooms have been painted white.

The new reception area and glazed link between the rooms and All Hallows have been built.

Work for May includes fitting the kitchen and making the new entrance doors.

The flooring has been chosen and the kitchen appliances are due to be ordered.

CHURCHROOM UPDATE 7 APRIL 2016

The windows and external doors are now in. Despite the delay, they have been worth waiting for. The gas main has also now been temporarily capped. The downside is that All Hallows had no heating in April but it means that the builders can now start building the new reception area and toilets.

Internally, plastering is well under way and we now have the exciting task of choosing colour schemes, kitchen appliances, tables and chairs.

CHURCHROOM UPDATE 3 MARCH 2016

The roof is now on the extension to the Church room and the reroofing of the existing Churchroom using a subtle blend of new and reclaimed tiles is nearly complete.

Inside, the first fix wiring is complete and the new small meeting room formed. The kitchen has been gutted and new units ordered. The frame for the dividing doors is now in place.

In March work will continue inside to insulate the roof and form the walls. Delivery of the windows has been delayed by three weeks which is a pain but it means that work on the new entrance hall and link to the Church will be brought forward.

CHURCHROOM UPDATE 18 FEBRUARY 2016

The 'less than attractive' link between All Hallows and the existing Church Room is down!

The new reception area is designed to create a visual break between the Church and the new All Hallows Church Rooms while maintaining covered access. Scroll down to see the artists impression.

CHURCHROOM UPDATE – 11 FEBRUARY 2016

This month’s update is mainly about the roof.

The roof structure for the extension is now up and linked in to the original Church Room. From the internal photo you can see how much extra space we will have.

We are reprofiling the roof of the existing Church Room over the kitchen area and the framework for that is now in place as the external photo shows.

Sadly the work has highlighted the poor condition of the roof over the existing Church Room, so we have no choice but to repair and refelt. This is a cost we had not expected so if you feel able to contribute to this essential maintenance work please tell Philip Geddes (email: pg3565@gmail.com or telephone 07802 245970).

We have also gutted the link between All Hallows and the Church Room which means we now have temporary toilets outside the Church. These are locked unless there is a Service or other Church activity taking place. Jobs for the rest of February include demolishing the link Iin readiness for the new entrance area.

Church room update - 16 November 2015

Work started on the extension and renovation of our church room on 2 November 2015. We anticipate the work will take 6 months.

All Hallows Church is not really affected by the work, so services will continue as usual. Tea and Coffee will after the service will be served in a temporary area within the Church. Toilet facilities will continue to be available. Young Church Builders (YCB) and our youth group (WAAG) will temporarily meet elsewhere - as will Tea & Tots.

The existing church room was built in 1974. It now needs rebuilding to bring it up to modern standards of efficiency and comfort. More importantly it is too small to meet the needs of the people who use it.

When completed there will be a visual break between the church and the church room with a glazed walkway subtly joining the two buildings.

South elevatio

South elevation - new

By using a York coloured through render with Portland stone for the roof parapet and paving we will have a simple building that does not detract from the church but becomes a contrasting neighbour to it. In particular, the new entrance to the church room provides level access up a gently sloping path from the church to make it more welcoming for users of all abilities.

Internally we have grown the usable space to provide two meeting rooms separated by folding doors to create one large space double the size of the existing room.

In addition there is a third meeting room that will also be used as an office, a large store which will also be used as a choir robing room and vestry. By giving these rooms a dual purpose we are able to provide additional space and usability at a lower cost.

The new entrance hall is enhanced by the provision of three toilets (we had two before), one of which is wheelchair accessible, one is suitable for ambulant disabled and one will provide baby changing facilities – which do not exist at the moment.

The existing church room will be rebuilt with new windows, heating and electrics with a refitted kitchen.

The plan shows the new layout of the Churchroom with the footprint of the existing Churchroom overlaid in blue. You can see how much bigger it is.

The north elevation will be similarly improved.

WE ARE CLOSE TO OUR TARGET – BUT WE STILL NEED FUNDS TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

Target £475,000
What we've raised so far:

We have now raised £370,000. A wonderful effort.

Sadly, it seems that VAT is payable on the project which increased the original budget from £475,000 to £570,000.

However, with careful cost reduction we have been able to reduce the total cost down to £420,000 including VAT.

This means we still need to raise another £50,000. PLEASE HELP US IF YOU CAN.

Donations, grants or fundraising ideas to Philip Geddes please.
