COMING UP AND OTHER NOTICES

The calendar below gives details of forthcoming events.

Coming Up

November Concert - Please put a date in your diary for a concert being put on this November in both Whitchurch and Longparish marking the 100th anniversary of the Armistice. This is a fund-raising concert raising money for Combat Stress and the Mityana Projects Trust trip in Feb next year. The concert features a performance of Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man Choral Suite, with other instrumental and choral works by Parry, Elgar, Purcell and others. The concert will be performed by singers & instrumentalists from Whitchurch, Longparish and the surrounding area. If you can’t make the performance on Sat 10th November at 7.30pm in All Hallows, there is a performance in St Nicholas, Longparish on Fri 9th November, also at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 each available from Robin & Nicky Smallwood or Paynes Printers. We will be serving refreshments in the interval. If you could set aside a bottle of wine or a soft drink it will be gratefully received.

Jesus Lifestyle Course Please come along to the Jesus Lifestyle course at All Hallows in the Church Rooms on Tuesdays at 7pm. All are welcome to this course, which starts each week with a shared meal, followed by a video and discussion.

Sponsor a Pew Bible. Regular attenders will know that each week the Bible page references are given for readings and that Rev. David likes to refer closely to the passage he is using as the text for his sermon. At the moment we only have 9 pew copies of the version used as the lectern Bible, which means that most people can't follow the readings. The PCC Worship sub-committee think it would be good to rectify this by asking church members to sponsor the purchase of a Bible, with an appropriate dedication if desired - although anonymous sponsorships will also be welcome, at a cost of £20 each. We would like to be able to buy at least 40 more Bibles, for dedication on Bible Sunday, October 28. If you would like to sponsor a Bible, please put an envelope, containing your £20 plus details of any dedication, into the special box which will be available at the back of church.

Christmas Shoeboxes will be collated by WAAG on 4 November in support of Basingstoke Rotary Club Appeal . Please leave any empty shoeboxes in the porch and WAAG leaders will collect; if you can decorate them in wrapping paper first, even better! (Lids need to be decorated separately.) Small gift items for the shoeboxes will be greatly appreciated, as will any donations of £2 to help the Rotary Club transport each parcel. Details of what can/cannot go in the boxes are on leaflets available in church or at www.rotaryshoebox.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/SB-A4-Contents18.pdf

Parish Magazine: A deliverer is needed for Brooks Close and Neuvic Way (near the Primary School). If you are able to help, please contact Simon Coomber (893615 / simon.coomber@btinternet.com).

Giving at All Hallows: If you already give regularly by standing order or parish giving thank you! If you would like to commence this please speak with John Wall. For the next few months we are going to pass an offering bag around during our services, if you already give regularly please don’t feel you have to give more, though there is always an opportunity for a love offering!

YOUNG CHURCH BUILDERS

What you’d probably know as Sunday School we call Young Church Builders. We meet most* Sunday mornings from 10am (i.e. before the service starts) in the Church Rooms attached to All Hallows.

At YCB we take children from 3 to 11 years and aim to provide music, singing, Bible stories and fun activities appropriate to their age.

If you would like to join us on a Sunday morning, please pop in and see what we get up to. We are always happy to have new children in YCB.

Over the summer holidays there is no YCB.  Please help yourself to an activity bag (located in the carpeted area near the font) which should keep younger children occupied should their attention wander! Children are also welcome to use the Church Room (under your supervision) during the service. Please speak to our sidespeople if you want to know where things are.

BABIES AND TODDLERS

Children are very welcome at our Service, whether they stay with you in the pew, stretch their legs in the carpeted area by the font or join YCB in the Church Rooms, where they may play with the toys (under the supervision of their carers) and are welcome to join in with YCB as and when they feel like it.

Toddlers are also welcome to play quietly (again under supervision) in the carpeted font area during the Service, but please note that their voices will carry during the quieter parts of the Service.

The activity bags (located in the carpeted area) should keep your children occupied if they aren’t in YCB.
